'Eternity Beach, Iona', Ben Greenwood, 2003, Acrylic on Canvas, part textured, 9x12"
This canvas was painted in contrasting blue and dove grey in order to acheive the visual effect of reflection. The inspiration for this work originates from my love of the work of Roy Lichtenstein and his glamourisation of the mundane. I enjoy the irony of the painting's suggestion of functionality despite the reality that it will never produce a reflection. The final irony is that the contrast between the blue and the grey has so far prevented me from getting a decent photo of the canvas so I guess its enigmatic qualities live on!

The inspiration for this canvas was derived from the work of my late Grandfather, Albert Halliwell, whose renditions of sunset scenes are amongst my earliest memories. I enjoy the contrast between the bright colours and how that adds to the 'snapshot' effect through the trees that I was trying to achieve. This is probably one of my favourite pieces.
The inspiration for this canvas came from my visits to the glorious Hebridean Island of Iona located off the West Coast of Scotland. After a short walk from the ferry (see below) there is an incredible beach that is pounded by the Atlantic waves. The sound of the sea here is so incredible, the sands so white and the waves so powerful that you become totally immersed in the environment. I collected sand from this beach and have actually used it on the canvas and integrated it into the beach.
I shall be spending my 28th Birthday in the summer of this year in this special place.
