THE JOURNEY...
...following the successful negotiation of Glasgow it was time to take the roof down and enjoy the fresh breezy air and the lovely road that traces the borders of Loch Lomond. This is a lovely windy road but beware of roadworks, potholes and large lorries swinging around the often sharp bends.

My girlfriend took some film on my digital camera of the lake from the car which can be seen to the right...

My clock on the dash just visible reads 13.10 so not making bad time..
...after leaving the banks of Loch Lomond which takes far longer than you would expect the road continues north through increasingly wild and mountainous territory. Many of the buildings in the small villages you pass through are distinctly Alpine in appearance in keeping with the fantastic scenery. At a village called Crianlarich its time to hook a left onto the A85 and head towards Oban. At this point you begin to realise that the fantastic scenery you have enjoyed so far seems to be superceded by the new view that each and every corner delivers..
Loch Lomond is a beautiful body of water which has recently been dedicated as Scotlands first National Park. It is the largest freshwater Loch in the UK at 24 miles long and has 38 islands some of which are even inhabited.
...by this point we were making pretty good time and the ferry departure time from Oban of 17.15 was looking a cinch. We decided to stop in the car park/picnic site of Cruachan Powerstation for a late lunch, located on the banks of the lovely Loch Awe. (above)
